From the CouncilFN&C to Cease Publication, Relaunch in '07Dear Foundation News & Commentary Subscribers: Many changes have occurred in the philanthropic sector since Foundation News & Commentary launched its first issue back in 1960. Not only have philanthropic resources grown dramatically in this half century, so, too, have the human needs and the complexity of the regulatory environment in which grantmakers operate. With those advances come both a need and an opportunity to reassess the purpose and relevance of the communications tools and resources that exist in the sector today. The Council is no exception. We are taking a fresh look at everything we do on behalf of our members and to advance the philanthropic sector for the common good. For the near term, we, along with many of our supporters, have determined that we should adjust course. Therefore, with this September/October 2006 edition, Foundation News & Commentary will discontinue publication. Going forward, we are fast assessing what type of publication would provide the greatest value and most relevance to the sector. With respect to content, recent surveys of members and other philanthropic leaders have identified a need and desire for a new flagship publication rich in content, critical debate and commentary. The Council plans to launch an exciting new flagship publication in spring 2007. For our members, subscribers and other supporters, we intend to extend your remaining subscriptions to our new publication. For our contributors, advertisers and other partners, we expect to offer you a fresh, relevant, thought-provoking vehicle for your consideration and partnership. The Council on Foundations deeply appreciates the loyal support of all readers, authors, contributors, advertisers, members, partners and staff of Foundation News & Commentary. We look forward to presenting our new flagship publication to you in the coming months. Thank you. Sincerely, Steve Gunderson Steve Gunderson is president and CEO of the Council on Foundations. |
